We sometimes foolishly believe that our species is the only one capable of love, but nature has ways to constantly prove us wrong. Arnold's love story is the latest love story from the animal world.
The staff from the nearby Cape Wildlife Center in Massachusetts noticed that Arnold had trouble walking and took him to the clinic for treatment. After examination, they had concluded that he had a foot injury and required surgery.
But, they never thought about how his absence would affect his girlfriend. His mate had been with him for years, and she quickly noticed that he was missing from their pond.
Pixabay“As we prepared to sedate Arnold and get him ready for surgery, we heard a faint tapping at the clinic door,” staff at the center wrote. “We turned to see that his mate had waddled up onto the porch and was attempting to break into our clinic! She had somehow located him …”
Arnold's surgery went well, and the goose is on its way to full recovery. "She remained there throughout the entire procedure, watching us work, never moving from the doorway," staff wrote.
The staff placed Arnold near the door and opened it so the couple could be together. "They both seemed much more at ease in each other's presence," staff added.
The vets expect Arnold to fully recover within the next few weeks. Luckily, he will not have to face his troubles alone because the staff plans to let the visits continue.
"We will do our best to get him back out quickly and will perform bandage changes and treatments in view of the doorway when possible so that his mate can check up on him," they wrote, adding: "Through sickness and health ..."
