If you've ever worked in a theme park (or any kind of tourist destination) you would know from experience that the magic can be sucked right out of the place when you have to deal with the general public on a daily basis.
I worked at a State Zoo for almost 4 years. I won't say where, but what I will say, is that it went from being a fun, family-friendly magical place to a complete hell-hole within about 6 months.
Some people just have a beautifully unique way of siphoning the magic out of a place and it becomes 'just another job'. Similarly, the stuff that goes on in a place like that before the gates open (and once they close) isn't magical, special or glamorous. It's normal... and sometimes, it sucks.
Toilets need cleaning, offices need organising, money needs counting and Zoo animals die. Yep. They die.
I had good days. Don't get me wrong. Seeing the smiles on kids' faces when they saw their favourite animal, got to hand-feed a giraffe, or got to see penguin babies was kind of priceless, but overall it just felt like a job.
Recently, a man named Mikey Jacobs (who worked at Disney World as Goofy for over 25 years) offered people the opportunity to ask him anything on Reddit. He then shared a pretty remarkable memory.
