Twisters Star Glen Powell Isn't Replacing Tom Cruise In Mission Impossible, Labeling The Role "A Death Trap"

Glen Powell has put an end to rumors that he would be taking over Tom Cruise's role in Mission: Impossible, labeling the role "a death trap."

When ESPN host Pat McAfee called Powell live during his show to congratulate him after reports that Cruise wanted Powell to replace him as the lead in any future Mission: Impossible films emerged, Powell denied the rumor immediately.

"My mom would never let me do that," Powell joked. "That's a death trap."

Of course, Powell's mother, Cyndy, has famously appeared in several cameos in her son's films. However, joining him in the epic adventures and dangerous antics of a Mission: Impossible film evidently isn't on her horizon.

Cruise and Powell are well known to each other, having starred together in 2022's Top Gun: Maverick. They are also set to reunite in the film's upcoming sequel.

While Powell is gearing up to star in the third installment of the Top Gun franchise, Cruise also has an exciting project in the works. The mega-star is set to reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.

The action-packed film will be the franchise's eighth instalment. It's expected to be released in cinemas in May 2025.

After all, Tom has truly earned the right to keep that role to himself, especially considering that he's in his 60s and still performing all his own stunts. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is set to be released in May 2025.
