Anyone who is willing to learn a language has the opportunity to flourish in the diversity of many cultures. There is simply no way to interact with one another better than through language.
Not only can we communicate through language, but it also provides us with a wealth of literature. The earth is home to many lovely languages, and there are people who speak different languages but still find a way to be together.
In today’s story, we see an Italian and a Dutch couple who have been dating for two years, but then, trouble finds its way in. How? One refused to learn the language of the other, and that is how their story landed on the AITA subreddit community.
The OP has been dating this Italian girl for two years, and she has lived in the Netherlands for five years, but she has no idea what the most common Dutch phrases are. The OP found it "strange that someone can live in a place for years and refuse to learn the native language."
Things got heated when the GF referred to Dutch as an ugly language.
This is how the whole story started out...
She speaks no Dutch and makes no effort to learn
That didn’t go as planned
“If that’s what you think, then maybe you should move back there”
The reddit post received 11.7K upvotes, 4 awards and more than 2,000 comments. While some redditors supported the OP, the rest just decided everyone in the story sucked.

Languages help people develop their aesthetic sense since they are works of art. Beautiful languages refine a person’s taste in other artistic mediums, such as poetry, music, and so on.
It’s understandable if you don’t want to learn another language, but calling any language "ugly" is the height of it all. What are your thoughts about the questions dropped by the OP?
