In fairness, these kittens are HUGE
One of the defining characteristics of kittens is their size: small. But, when it comes to kittens it turns out that is not always true.
When we picture kittens, the image that likely springs to mind is one of cute, little, furry babies that run around on their huge feet chasing things. Other adorable kitten characteristics include razor sharp claws (AKA murder mittens,) and big ears that are disproportionate to their tiny, kitten heads.
Kittens begin their lives as creatures small enough to fit in the palm of our hands, and slowly but surely grow into full-size cats.
Okay, the fact that kittens are always teeny-tiny is mostly true, but these kittens form one notable exception. These kittens are bigger than most full-size cats and it is incredible.
Mary and Gab knew that the Norweigian Forrest Cats would be big, but were still blown away at the size of them! Mary said that when they got them as kittens, they didn't look like normal, five-month-old kittens, they already seemed to be fully grown... but they weren't!
Mary said:
‘If I go to someone’s house who has normal-sized cats, I think, “my god, your cat is tiny”. They just look like kittens to me. ‘If I see a regular-sized cat now, I think, “what’s wrong with the cat”. I see my big cats every day [so it’s what I’m used to].
The cats have huge, but loving personalities.
‘They quite like water and obviously look big and fluffy. We have a big fluffy dog as well. The cats are a bit dog-like as well. They’ve very human orientated.
We definitely wanted a cat who would play with us and want us, but also be laid back enough that they could be around my daughter and would accept a dog in the house as well. This is the first time we’ve gotten cats as large as these two. There’s more to love and more to cuddle.
Before bed we put them away for the night in my daughter’s playroom with food and water and toys, so there’s a habit every evening that I pick them both up and carry them off to bed.
There’s a lot of fluff and there’s a lot of cat to carry around, so now I’m having to carry them one at a time. It is a bit of a highlight of the day, carrying these two giant fluffballs. It is funny because they are so big.’
The couple had only planned on adopting one of the giant babies, but couldn't resist a second after he started purring at their feet. The kittens are currently one year old, but do not stop growing until they are four!
‘They are lovable giants and I wouldn’t be without them.
Do you love these giant kittes? Personally, I'd love one!
