This Adorable Bulldog Loves It When His Parents Do Gardening Work Because He Gets Holes He Can Take Naps In
“He's just the cutest, funniest little ball of fur. His personality is huge.”

In the spring of 2021, Caitlin and her partner Grant began excavating a drainage ditch behind their home because they felt it would be the ideal size for water runoff. They were unaware that the hole was the perfect size for Franklin, their oddball bulldog.
“While Grant was digging the 20-foot-long trench, Franklin just hopped down into it and laid down,” Caitlin says. “He just kept burrowing down, and if someone picked him up … he would immediately jump back in.”
Caitlin has had Franklin, who was adopted in 2020, as her constant company while working from home. The energetic dog adores his family and is always up for joining in on all activities, especially if they involve digging holes.
The bulldog from Alabama enjoys hanging out on the porch swing and going to pottery class with Caitlin, where he quickly makes friends. That is if he isn't busy using his bulldog-sized tunnel network to get to far-off places.
“He's just the cutest, funniest little ball of fur,” Caitlin said. “His personality is huge.”
Caitlin and Grant have excavated a lot of new holes since creating the trench, largely for Franklin but also for gardens and plants.
Let's get to know him better:
Franklin, the oddball bulldog, sure loves holes.

Just watch him enjoying himself:
Have you ever observed how, when a dog goes to sit or take a nap, it circles around a few times, scratches at the ground or floor, loops around a few more times, and then, after giving it some serious thought, sits?
That's because dogs carefully consider the best place before taking a nap. They are ensuring that his location is as comfy as it can be, and this activity is a natural aspect of their instinct.
When it comes to choosing the greatest place by the fire in the winter or the best lounge chair at the summer pool, people can be finicky. Your dog does the same - just using dirt.
Dogs will sit in a hole depending on the weather to either stay warm or cold. In order to keep its body cool on a hot summer day, it may dig a bit to uncover cooler earth.
Given that dogs do not sweat like humans do to stay cool, the cool, fresh earth feels good against his skin. Dogs primarily regulate their temperature through their paws and by breathing.
He never misses a chance to take a nap in a hole.

He probably does this to get away from the heat, but it is still adorable:

Perhaps Franklin enjoys the coziness of hiding up in a chilly hole. He nearly seems to blend in, which may be why he prefers this hidden vantage position.
Maybe he likes to imagine himself as a lovely gardenia that has just been planted. Caitlin believes that Franklin's primary objective is just to participate and claim a unique space for himself.
Franklin's favorite location is somewhere he can be with his family. And what if the location has a hole in it?
Better still.
