There's thing lovely phrase people often use - "you can maintain a healthy work-life balance if..." I've never been able to understand anything beyond "if" because no matter how hard I try, it's impossible to live if you work full time.

Where's the time? There are 24 hours in a day, correct?

1. You sleep for 8 hours,
2. You work for 8 hours,
3. You commute for 2 hours,
4. You eat for 1 hour,
5. You commute back home for 2 hours,

That leaves you with 3 hours +/- 1 hour, so let's assume 4 hours. What are you going to do during those 4 hours?

1. Bath,
2. Cook,
3. Do your laundry,
4. Clean the house,
5. Sort out your bills,
6. Water your plants,
7. Buy your grocery,
8. Sweat on things you can't change,
9. Care for your pet,
10. Sort out family issues,
11. Sort out other issues like your car, dishwasher, AC, heater, plumbing...

Where's the time to live? If you have children, that list grows exponentially.

Oh wait, you thought about weekends, didn't you? Well, I hate to break it to you, but some people work six and even seven days a week.

Tell me please, how in the world do you find the time to live and experience life? Apparently, someone else had this question too.

People talk about living a fulfilling life, but exactly how when half a day you're working for someone else and the other half you're struggling to survive?

merritt k asked people on Twitter how they lived life if they worked full time and 30 people responded. What I've learned is that sacrifices need to be made if you want to live life, not just get by.

I don't have a straightforward answer yet, but let the scrolling begin.

Remember the times when you could focus on your hobby and make a living working for a nice company that allows you to leave early so you could cook your meals and still have time to enjoy the rest of your evening?

Yeah, exactly. These companies don't exist, and if they do, they're 1 in a million.

Unless you compromise on your sleep and stop cleaning and doing the laundry, there's no way you have enough time to live life.

So next time someone tells you to "maintain a healthy work-life balance" look them dead in the eyes and start singing Dolly Parton's 9 to 5. They'll get the message.
