Young Woman Learns The Value Of Silence After Offending Her Best Friend By Saying His Gf Is Disgusting
"OP's nOt LiKe OtHeR gIrLs"

"You must be fun at parties" is a sentence this Redditor is familiar with. The 22-year-old OP got checked by thousands of strangers because of a story she posted in Am I The A**hole.
OP claimed she was genuinely worried about her best friend when she called his girlfriend disgusting. OP's best friend, Danny, reached a relationship milestone and moved in with his girlfriend Lucy.
They had a housewarming party which OP attended. OP noticed that Lucy spent most of the night dancing with her best friends, who are extroverted like her.
Meanwhile, Danny, OP, and most of their friends stayed on the sidelines because they are more introverted — or, as OP phrased it, they are not party animals. OP asked Danny if he was okay when she saw him silent.
Danny assured OP that he was just tired, but his eyes never left Lucy as she danced. He whispered something to Lucy when she came over, and she just shook her head & laughed at him.
OP asked Danny if Lucy's behavior was bothering him. Danny asked OP to elaborate, and she obliged.
She said Lucy's dancing, coupled with her revealing outfit, was attention-seeking. Danny told OP that what Lucy wore or did was not a problem.
OP made a mental note that her best friend remained moody after that

Lucy finally sat down with them and she was excitedly chatting about the amazing housewarming party

OP pointed out that this wasn't true because Danny obviously didn't enjoy the night

Danny told Lucy about what OP said regarding her clothes. Lucy said Danny was just quiet because he wanted to get Lucy back to bed which OP thought was inappropriate.

Lucy laughed when OP threatened to leave if she continued to be "disgusting." Lucy is now demanding an apology from OP, but OP doesn't think that she needs to apologize for anything.

OP clarified that she's not jealous of Lucy and her pointed questions were prompted by what she knew of Danny's more conservative leanings

Even if Lucy were a bad dancer, how did it really affect OP's night that she had to ruin everyone else's?

How dare Lucy dance and have fun in her own home around her friends! For shame!

OP must have a fainting chair nearby all the time if she is this reactive around other people having fun

Come on, OP, just be real about your feelings

OP laid a claim on Danny years ago, Lucy should have known better than to dress nicely!

Did this thought even cross OP's mind?

Can you imagine spending the night monitoring what other people are doing when you could have had a better time celebrating your best friend's milestone?

OP tried to play it off as a joke because she knew what she said was wrong

Even if Danny felt uncomfortable about Lucy's clothes or behavior, it was still none of OP's business

Literally nobody asked for OP's opinion, but she wanted her thoughts to be heard, so she must now face the consequences

OP posted an update a few days later

OP met up with Danny and Lucy. She apologized and Danny explained how Lucy brought him out of his shell.

OP has not seen Danny in a while before the party, so she wrongly assumed that Lucy's behavior and clothing must have offended him.

They all agreed to move past the issue. OP and Lucy will make an effort to get to know each other.

Commenters still think that OP has residual feelings for Danny that she's not yet willing to admit

They said OP had nothing to worry about unless Danny was a completely different version of himself

They think OP has a lot of growing up to do regarding the Danny situation

They don't believe OP's apology was sincere and think that she has to learn about boundaries

OP came out looking awful from that situation. She failed to listen to Danny when he said nothing was bothering him.
She should respect their relationship and learn how to maintain a respectful distance from their personal life. Redditors correctly pointed out that OP has a lot to learn and this could be a good starting point.
