There's a fine line between being a good friend and being taken advantage of. And sometimes, it's hard to know where that line begins and ends.

Reddit user u/BoppityBoopity666 recently posted a story about his questionable "friend" in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. The OP explained that he had worked with this person for around two years.

They were "work buddies" and would talk a lot during the day, but the OP felt that their friendship was very one-sided and his friend would always expect a lot of favors without giving anything back in return. Sometimes, this friend would even steal a sale from the OP.

The Redditor says his friend would often complain about how broke he was. But the OP was also earning a very low income and was working six days a week to support his family.

Because of that, the OP only had one day a week to spend with his wife. The Redditor says that whenever they made plans to hang out with his work friend, it would often result in them having to drive him around and wait on him while he ran errands.

One day, the OP's friend quit his job and moved almost an hour away with a girl he met. He cut off contact with the OP, but via Facebook, the Redditor found out that his friend was expecting twins with his partner.

Months later, the OP read a post by his friend saying that the babies had been born prematurely. One was sadly stillborn, and the other was extremely unwell.

Within a few weeks, the second baby also passed away. The OP tried to contact his friend several times but was unsuccessful until months later when he received a phone call from him.

The friend mentioned he was having a hard time after losing his two children, and after he hung up, he texted the OP a link to a fundraiser for him to donate money towards the medical expenses for the twins. The OP texted his friend back, saying, "I'm sorry buddy, I'm not in a place financially to do that right now."

What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP was being harsh for not donating to his friends' fundraiser under the circumstances, or was his friend just using him all along?
