"They are also very intelligent animals with complex nature, which makes them interesting to follow."
There's no denying that Mother Nature has lavished us with many gifts of everything we require to live. Not to mention the beautiful scenery and charming creatures that warm our hearts.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to visit every corner of our planet and meet every animal, but luckily, we have wildlife photographers to bring the world's wonders close to us. Roeselien Raimond, a Dutch photographer, isn't afraid to fight the weather conditions in order to capture the "perfect shot."
Her passion for wildlife, particularly foxes, motivates her to take her camera on numerous outdoor adventures, resulting in some stunning images. Her most recent series depicts red foxes covered in snow.
Raimond often treks into nature to find her animal subjects, despite the fact that she lives in a city. This entails staying in one spot for an extended amount of time, frequently in discomfort.
But it is all worth it. “It was -12°C (10.4°F) when I photographed these foxes, which is exceptionally cold here,” Raimond says.
“I was lying in a fierce snowstorm and got completely absorbed in the moment. It was only when it got dark that I realized how hungry and hypothermic I had become.”
Her efforts are rewarded, though, as she is able to capture images of foxes up close and from a number of perspectives.
“I have now been studying fox behavior for over a decade and I have had the opportunity to meet many foxes,” Raimond says.
“I could never have imagined that a wild predator could have such a gentle disposition. They are also very intelligent animals with complex nature, which makes them interesting to follow.”
The red fox is the largest of the true foxes and one of the most widely distributed members of the order Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere including most of North America, Europe, and Asia, plus parts of North Africa.
They can easily adapt to weather conditions and the cold doesn't bother them at all.
In this series, the fox subjects appear to be entirely at ease in the weather. The fox has its eyes closed in many photos as snowflakes coat its thick fur, and it rests down in the layers of snow in others.
So in touch with nature. And they're so obviously enjoying the moment.
We could learn a lot from these animals.
