Most people who are missing one or both of their biological parents due to adoption or abandonment will find themselves compelled inevitably to search for that missing piece of their life, no matter how fulfilling their life already is. Besides the fact that knowing our family's medical history can be incredibly important and relevant, it's only human nature to want to know where, or rather who, we came from. Sometimes, finding a biological parent is a daunting and seemingly impossible task, and sometimes finding the parent is even more so daunting! The moment of truth comes at first contact. No one ever truly knows what to expect, will they be happy you found them? Angry? Scared or embarrassed? But when you're ready to face the past, your own past, you just... jump in and do it!
Justin, a 26-year old Florida college student knew his whole life that he was adopted. He had tried several times over the years to find his biological mother, saying:
But with so little information to go off of, the task of finding her was not successful. The only things Justin knew about the woman who birthed him was her name, a common name, and that her father was a pastor.
Then, as fate would have it, a breakthrough came in a time of loss. His adoptive mother sent him an article, an obituary of a pastor near the town he was born in. She believed the deceased pastor was his grandfather and after some creative digging, Justin was able to locate the woman he believed to be his biological mother on Facebook and he sent her a message. The rest... is history!
