Father's Overprotectiveness Ended Saving His Asthmatic Daughter's Life
Parents try their hardest to ensure the safety of their children; some leave them a lot of freedom, and some monitor their every move to prevent anything harmful from happening to them. Overprotectiveness leads to many unhealthy practices that harm the child more than protect them.

Many parents implement specific systems to make it easier for their children to let them know that they are in danger. It's, generally, a precise cue that is different from what they are used to that helps alert parents about any potential threats.
Carrying an emergency phone is a good solution that many parents opt for, it's uncomplicated and pretty straightforward. The emergency phone must stay on, and never on silent mode, at all times; if it receives any call, you immediately know that something is terribly wrong and will evidently have a faster and instant reaction.

That day scarred OP for life. It's not something you could easily forget.
OP's wife thought of him as overprotective after setting this system up.
Here's how Reddit users reacted to u/Similar_Somewhere_49's story:
This user asked OP an important question that a lot of other users brought up.
A lot of families have genetic conditions that they constantly keep in mind.
Some people might see it as overprotective, but not everyone sees it like this.
It's a good idea to have an emergency number after all.
Some are even more protective than OP. They go way overboard.
Calling emergency services would not have been a good idea.
Having an emergency number is the way to go!
This user was worried that she might have the same condition as OP's daughter.
Another user replied to the previous comment and gave some tips.
Instant panic when that phone randomly rings.
OP could even relate to a previous user's comment and replied.
Asthmatic people should constantly keep an inhaler on them.
Some parents wouldn't even bother to do what OP did.
It's a 14 year old with a special medical condition. Things are much different.
Phones are mostly put on silent by people, so it's easy to miss an emergency call that way.
Sometimes it's good to be overprotective.
She's probably looking down and smiling.
Parents can be protective without it being too obsessive; caring about the well-being and safety of your child is the least any parent can do, and if additional habits need to be implemented, there's really no harm in that. OP managed to save his daughter from certain death and the emergency phone played an important role in that.
OP might end up saving even more lives after sharing his story with the world.
