The confidence of some people yelling the wrong things online is a daily occurrence that is fascinating to witness. The ability to fact-check information within a few clicks doesn't deter most from making the wildest, unverified claims.
So, when the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, once reaffirmed the humanity of the LGBTQIA+ community, anyone who has ever had an opinion shared theirs loudly. One Facebook user amused and confused everyone when she claimed that the Pope was not a "true Catholic."
"He is literally the Pope," replied another. The original commenter did not bother to argue the fact and was potentially reeling from the knowledge that she just claimed that the highest-ranking member of one of the biggest religions in the world wasn't a true Catholic.
The Pope not being a homophobe was, apparently, an affront against his Christian beliefs. The Facebook user's comment soon made the rounds on social media.
None were more amused and ready to call her out than Reddit users. 104k Redditors agreed that her comment was a worthy mainstay of the r/facepalm Hall of Fame.
If the Facebook user was offended by the Pope's inclusive beliefs, she would spontaneously combust if she saw how progressive most of the Redditors were under her post. Are we heathens then if God's representative on Earth was a false believer?
It's doubtful if she even read past the headline.
u/WarmmLemmonThere truly is no hate like Christian love.
BadgerMountainWasn't loving your neighbor one of God's commandments? Completely unaware that that was conditional to their gender and sexual orientation.
RedditThe Pope's full statement would have infuriated the Facebook user even more. Civil unions for the LGBTQIA+ community must signal the end of times.
jimtrickingtonThe Pope isn't even advocating for gay marriage. His stance isn't that progressive, but it's a step in the right direction.
jimtrickingtonHe is certainly more Jesus-like than some of those who claim to be devout members of the religion.
JectorDelanJesus has a weird fan base. They have very interesting interpretations of his teachings.
poisontongueI understand why some people advocate for separating social media based on age brackets.
Danktizzle"He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." This is from a highly popular book.
coltar3000They won't even give them the time of day.
pluzumkWhy would you want to be a part of something that teaches you to hate others?
ReneeismePretty sure their interpretation goes against everything Jesus and God stood for.
big_ol_dad_dickThey would call Jesus a communist and then deport him.
RedditIt's usually the shallow believers who are the loudest.
PricklyPixIt's sickening how they use a religion that mostly espouses love and acceptance to ostracize other people who don't fit their mold.
Meat_BingoIn 2023, the Vatican approved a ruling that allowed Catholic priests to bless same-sex couples. The blessing of an LGBTQIA+ couple's union is not the same as a marriage.
The Catholic Church and God's right-hand man on Earth are more progressive than some of their devotees, it seems. They are more ready to denounce the leader of their faith than to accept that all humans deserve love and support.
