The majority of gamblers don't have a gambling problem, but some do at some point in their lives. These individuals let their gambling spiral out of control to the point where it interfered with their daily lives.
Even when they are losing a lot of money, those who have a gambling addiction are unable to resist their impulse to gamble. In the hopes that the reward will be more valuable, they are willing to risk losing something of value.
All aspects of life can be negatively impacted by gambling addiction. Financial losses, bankruptcy, job loss, homelessness, mental health issues, and the deterioration of interpersonal relationships are just a few of the consequences of problem gambling.
Not just you but also your family, friends, and coworkers may experience terrible consequences. OP's stepdad had a serious gambling problem years ago, and because of that, both he and his mother had to postpone retirement and constantly have to work overtime.
The OP has a job that brings him enormous stability and is calm and stress-free. The OP has turned down several offers with high salaries because of this, but his mom and stepdad were not happy about it.
They kept telling him to find a job that would pay him more, but the OP wasn't interested. There was a barbecue in celebration of the OP's parents' 20-year marriage, and they still reminded him of his job.
The OP had enough and gave them a piece of his mind by exposing their debts.
Here is the story's title
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906The OP doesn't use a car enough to buy one and all his expenses are covered by his salary

Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906Several relatives sent messages saying that the OP shouldn't expose this kind of situation to others
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the a-hole:
Exposing my parents' debts in front of family and friends.
I shouldn't expose this kind of situation to others and that I embarrassed my parents by simply worrying about me.
We've gathered some of the topmost comments from other redditors for you to read through below
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906The OP shouldn't feel bad for defending his reasonable life choices
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906The relatives shouldn't have been insulting him in front of everyone
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906The comment might be rude but it is justified
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906They should have kept their thoughts to themselves
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906The OP didn't need to take their comments into account
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906It was their choice to being it up in public
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906They are the ones throwing stones in a glass house
Reddit/Patient-Fly-9906The most important thing here is that the job meets all of the OP's needs, and he's content with it. Some Redditors were not sure if it's a matter of status where they want him to earn more so they can talk about him or if it's much more selfish where they want the OP to get more so they can put financial pressure on him.
However, the OP was declared not the AH.
