Although sharing your personal opinion on politics and the actions of government leaders is completely allowed, sometimes you may want to think twice before doing so. While people have the right to speak as the freedom of speech is guaranteed by the constitution, they also need occasionally to be cautious of where and what thoughts they express.
You can't express your opinion to people who haven't asked you to. For example, it is not desirable to bring your political opinions and beliefs to the workplace, it could really put you in an uncomfortable situation and the people around you also.
Some boundaries must exist and must be respected. But are we all aware of our mistakes, and more importantly, are we capable of correcting them?
Apparently not. Recently, a man got fired because he didn't want to acknowledge his mistakes or do anything to change them.
He was an excellent employee, and that is an undeniable fact. But his beliefs were clearly more important to him than his work, or so it seemed.
His employer tried to talk to him and help him understand why his actions weren't appropriate for the firm, but it was a dead end, and eventually, the employer had to do what was best for the company, but sadly not for his worker. Below you can see the full story, the employer shared it online and wanted to hear others people's opinions, so feel free to let us know what you think.
Is he? See the full story below.
redditHe allows his employees to drive their vehicles to jobsites.
redditOne of his good workers, Steve, uses that opportunity and drives his own truck.
redditThe employer even approved it himself, but...
redditCustomers started complaining about Steve's truck because it was covered in political stickers.
redditHe talked to Steve and explained to him he can't anymore use his own truck when going to jobsites.
redditSteve agreed, but apparently, not for long as he started using his own truck again.
redditThen they talked again, and Steve got fired.
redditNaturally, Steve got furious and started telling negative stuff about the company.
redditThis unpleasant situation got him and his company a lot of problems.
redditA good point here:
redditIt's not appropriate, people may think that it's the company culture and not Steve's.
redditSteve is an employee like everyone else, he should respect company policy.
redditIt's so unprofessional.
redditNTA, Steve forced the issue.
redditAs an employer, he needs to protect the company's interests.
redditSteve fired himself.
reddit"Politics should not be brought into your job or job site."
redditHe had a chance to fix it but decided not to.
reddit"Apparently the stickers are more important than his job"
redditThe office is not a place for political opinions.
redditA lot of people agreed that Steve had the opportunity to prevent getting fired, but he chose not to. Or he simply didn't take it seriously enough.
Either way, if he wasn't willing to respect company policy and his work caused troubles that he was aware of, firing was the best choice the employer could make. What do you think of this uncomfortable situation?
