“My mom accused me of depriving my children of the fun we had as kids dyeing eggs.”
When it comes to quirky family traditions, few things rival the annual Easter egg dyeing extravaganza. For Our narrator (Original Poster), this colorful tradition turned into a battle of wits and preferences that left everyone questioning the true essence of Easter joy.
From a young age, OP detested the messy business of dyeing Easter eggs. Yet, she partook in the colorful ritual every year, courtesy of her mom's obsession with the tradition.
Fast forward to adulthood and motherhood, and the egg-dyeing saga continued, albeit reluctantly. When OP couldn’t take it any more she started sending her kids to her mom’s to help, craftily removing herself from the entire ordeal.
However, as they grew older, they too lost interest in the dyeing affair. Enter plastic eggs, the saviors of Easter sanity for OP. No longer did she have to endure messy, dye-stained fingers.
Instead, she embraced the convenience of plastic eggs and filled them with whatever. The family convened at her brother’s place for Easter each year and OP trudged along with her plastic eggs.
Last year, she couldn’t even be bothered to m fill her own eggs. So, she ordered pre-filled slime eggs instead and they turned out to be a smash hit among the younger members of the family.
But OP’s mom? Not so much.
She slammed OP’s innovative twist as ‘lazy’ and accused her of ruining the Easter magic for her niblings. Her dad urged her to cave in to make her mom happy but her brother believed the whole thing was blown out of proportion.
Did OP really do anything wrong?
We gathered some reactions from the Reddit community:
In the eyes of the Redditors, OP definitely wasn’t the b**face here. They emphasized that her little spin on Easter eggs doesn't diminish her mom's love for egg-dyeing. Who says two traditions can’t co-exist harmoniously?
Being a good mom / aunt meant embracing what brought the kids happiness, and it was clearly slimy eggs in this case. Commenters dubbed OP a great aunt and cheered her on in her quest to keep bringing smiles with her slime-filled eggs.
