Wrinkle The Duck Wins Her First Medal Running Her Second Marathon

Waddling her way to triumph, Wrinkle impressed the crowd with her last-minute burst of speed.

Wrinkle the Duck became a household name last year when she took part in the New York City Marathon. And, this year, the sweet duck has outdone herself once again.

Not only has Wrinkle run another marathon, but this time she even won a medal! Wrinkle participated in the Jovia Long Island Marathon Weekend as a special guest and was awarded an impressive medal with the event logo and Wrinkle's number 332 proudly displayed on the front.

Although technically, Wrinkle is a male duck, her owners, Justin and Joyce, say she identifies as female. You see, it can be challenging to determine the gender of a duck until they are at least six months old.

So, when Justin and Joyce had to register Wrinkle as an emotional support animal, they hazarded a guess and registered her as a girl.

"All the signs pointed to female," Justin said.

"She's always given feminine vibes; she's our little princess," he continued. "She can be whatever she wants to be."

Wondering how Wrinkle got her adorable name? "When she was little, she really liked wrinkles, little folds in the fabric, and everything like that," said Justin.

"She would constantly investigate and try to eat them, so we just called her wrinkle eater," he said. "Then we started traveling around, then it was like a Wrinkle in time."

In true Wrinkle the Duck fashion, she ran the race in style, wearing her trademark bright red duck shoes. Waddling her way to triumph, Wrinkle impressed the crowd with her last-minute burst of speed which ended up winning her the race.

"I watched a duck run a race and cross the finish line," the announcer said in amazement. And he wasn't the only one delightfully astonished by the clever duck.

Wrinkle enjoyed every moment of her glory and all the attention she received as a result. She proudly posed for photos as she showed off her brand new medal, and there's no denying the camera loves her.

Since her victory, Wrinkle has made lots of friends around NYC. Her owners have been taking her on "duck dates," and she's loving her popularity.

"We've met different animals; she met a bunny, a pig, and a goose," said Joyce. "We're still trying to let her meet a couple of ducks more regularly and see if we can bring her to the next level of relationship."
