Woman's Neglect of Dog's Fleas And Ticks Puts Future Daughter-In-Law In The Emergency Room

It's common knowledge that once you have a pet, you ought to take them to the vet from time to time. But for today's story, were looking at ticks and fleas.

Some dogs and cats may experience more than just itchy discomfort from flea bites. They can result in flea allergy dermatitis which is an allergic response to flea saliva proteins.

Additionally, a pet's frequent scratching due to fleas and ticks may result in additional skin issues or irreversible hair loss. Anaemia and, in rare instances, death can result from fleas feeding on your pet's blood during severe infestations.

Tick-borne diseases can injure your pet and cause tick bites. Clearly, OP's future mother-in-law doesn’t care about these things, as she hasn't given her dog any type of flea or tick treatment.

The OP also revealed that it has been going on for the 2 years they’ve had the dog. Not just that, the dog hasn’t been to the vet or been fixed, but that’s a whole other story.

The OP has seen fleas in their carpet, and she knows for a fact that the dog has them. The OP has told her future MIL that they need to treat the dog for fleas, but she got angry and said if her dog had fleas, she would see them.

They paid OP a visit, and her cat got fleas. The OP decided to give each of the cats a flea bath but ended up in the ER a day later. Read the full story below.

The OP also revealed in the comments saying:

She gives the dog a normal bath once a month or so. I guess she assumes that’s all she needs. The issues with her go SO much deeper than just this. It’s actually kind of funny. After she found out I was in the hospital, she was all concerned. She told ME to make sure my SO takes care of me. He’s the one that brought me to the ER & has been doing everything all week to make it easier on me. But she wouldn’t even let him clean his own room when he lived there. How does she expect him to take care of me when she didn't even allow him to take care of himself???

Some of the redditors adviced the OP to call CPS or animal control if it gets to the point where children are flea-infested and nothing is being done. Only in extremely severe infestations will fleas thrive on humans.

At this stage, it's likely that the entire house and yard need to be treated. Drop your candid advice for the OP in the comments section below and share this post as well.
