Making the decision to put your dog to sleep permanently is never easy. It's quite hard to say goodbye to your dog because they are cherished family members.
However, it becomes even more difficult and upsetting when your dog's behavior—rather than their health—is the cause of their demise. You may be wondering how you could let your dog down so you feel bad.
However, there are some circumstances where behavioral euthanasia is the only morally right choice. To put it plainly, certain dogs are put to death because they pose a risk to society.
The OP of today's story has been with her boyfriend for 9 months, and all his family lives near him. They are a very close but overbearing bunch, and OP's BF has a 4-year-old terrier mix.
When they first started dating, the OP noticed the dog's bad behavior, as he nips, growls, isn't house-trained, and is very unpredictable. However, everyone acts as if he's the best dog in the world.
The dog is cute and funny, and in the OP's words, he could get away with murder. Mind you, the OP has a dog and two cats, so she's never been scared of a dog or disliked a dog, but her BF's dog was an exception.
One faithful day, as they were sitting in the garden having a BBQ, the dog bit the OP. The doctor said it was a bad bite and that the dog could get put down for it.
The OP writes
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123Everyone acts as if he's the best dog in the world because he's cute and funny
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123No one said anything or did anything and said he was just playing
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123BF's mother stared at the OP and said that the dog was just behaving like a dog
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123OP's boyfriend obviously doesn't want his dog put down so he's siding with them
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123The OP leaves a summary behind
Dog bit me, whole of bf family adore dog, saying it's my fault, I'm stuck here with them for another four days
The comments from other Redditors roll in...
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123The OP should dump her boyfriend and move on
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123People correct bad behaviour for the dog's sake
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123They are extremely irresponsible pet owners
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123This Redditor is listing things the OP should get done
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123The OP thanks everyone for their advice and provides an update for those who requested for it
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123The OP thinks that if she reports them, they will probably receive a warning or at the very most have the dog taken off them
Reddit/Ouchthathurt123Redditors pointed out that dogs that are truly loved by their owners never act this way. When you love a dog, you also make sure to discipline and train them because having an untrained pet shows a complete lack of maturity and responsibility.
It might be time for the OP to leave that family as many Redditors say that they sound like trash, especially if everyone believes that it's acceptable for a dog to bite someone and draw blood.
