Dogs being man's best friends, have been proven in countless instances. Inherently, they have the most caring and gentle souls.
So just when three helpless baby raccoons who were only weeks old tragically lost their mom, finding them in the care of a sweet Pit Bull named Ashlyn is not a surprise at all because dogs are naturally caring animals. Unlike humans, animals are less likely to hesitate in helping each other.
When the baby raccoons sought refuge in the backyard of a Canadian family, it was as if they were certain that they would be taken care of and have a good life ahead. Well, thank goodness, as that move indeed changed their lives forever.
The Canadian family welcomed the poor baby raccoons and hand-fed them. The family has a Pit Bull named Ashlyn, so they thought it would be helpful to introduce the dog and the raccoons to each other in hopes of having her act as their adoptive mother.
At first, Ashlyn felt confused but eventually, she adopted the tiny creatures. She took care of them and raised them as if they were her own babies.

She would never lose sight of them.
"This was the moment @ashlynthewonderdog started coming around to Eto."
"She was always protective of him, but she really started to embrace her motherly bond with him the weekend we spent at the pond. Of course, one day wasn't enough with this heat wave sweating the life out of us, so we went back for a few more days in the early mornings before the temperatures could really escalate."
"Eto obviously loved it "
"I wanted him to enjoy his play time and also continue training him. Now that he was feeling good, we could start doing some hunting/scavenging practices. We did find a crayfish, but Eto wasn't off the milk yet, so he only played with it and dumped it."

Although they have become domesticated for quite some time, these baby raccoons are taught how to deal with it in the wilderness because very soon, when they are able and ready, they will eventually be returned to the wild.
Despite being sweet and tamed, the fact remains that these baby raccoons are wild animals.
"I've never had a kit look at me like this. He's smiling at me."
"With his teeth becoming more predominant, he wanted to use them. Think of this like a human baby when they start teething for the first time. They want to bite everything haha. No different here. He was ready to prove himself for himself and this was the turning point where his confidence grew."
Indeed, these baby raccoons are learning to survive. Thanks to their Mama Dog, Ashlyn!
Sweet and inspiring.
The family has created an Instagram account to keep in touch with their rehabilitation. By far, the baby raccoons are having incredible progress.
Soon, they will be ready enough to face and thrive in the wild where they originally came. We can be sure that this trio will miss their dog mom that accepted them wholeheartedly and guided them in their everyday survival.
