Husband Offends His Divorced Sister-In-Law By Calling His Wife The Most Beautiful Woman In The World

Maintaining a relationship requires constant and consistent effort from both parties. This can become challenging when most of our days are consumed by work.

The strength of a marriage can be tested by this, and this doctor is no stranger to the dilemma. His wife also works in a demanding field, and while her schedule is normal, OP's isn't.

This is unfortunate since they are both used to being affectionate with one another. As luck would have it, their schedules aligned recently.

OP's duty ended at 5 PM on a Friday, and his wife went home early from work. They were both excited that they could finally just be together and decided to watch a movie in the living room.

They were whispering sweet nothings to each other while the movie was playing when OP's sister-in-law, his wife's sister, decided to join them.

She's been staying with them since her divorce, and they haven't had a problem sharing a space together. OP shared that her SIL was in an arranged marriage and generally doesn't see the appeal of a love marriage.

The divorce was a big blow, and his SIL has been down because of it. Being a divorced woman from an arranged marriage is not ideal in their culture, and OP's SIL is probably dreading the fact that she could be single for the rest of her life.

So, OP and his wife were saying how much they missed each other during the week and his SIL was on the other couch watching the movie

At one point, OP held his wife's face and proclaimed that she was the most beautiful woman in the world

OP believes this is when his SIL left the room

After the film ended, OP's wife went to their room to get ready for bed. OP's SIL confronted him about what he said earlier.

She yelled at OP and accused him of being lovey-dovey with his wife to mock her for her lack of a husband

She said that OP implied she wasn't beautiful when he complimented his wife's looks. OP tried to calm her down but she got even angrier.

She then began listing comparisons between her sister and herself. She asked OP, "what makes her hotter than me?"

She tried to hug OP but he shook his head and she walked away dejected. Did OP handle the situation well or should he have given his SIL a hug?

Did she really expect OP to console her after all those baseless accusations?

If OP doesn't nip this in the bud, his SIL will prove to be a bigger headache in the future

He needs to tell his wife what happened before his SIL can get a chance to distort the story in her favor

They have shown her kindness and she got way too comfortable that she broke boundaries

It's not like they went to her place and cuddled up... If that's what happened, then she is right to be offended but OP and his wife were in their own home being sweet with each other.

OP did nothing wrong when he called his wife the most beautiful woman in the world. Everyone deserves a partner like that.

It might be best if OP avoids being alone with his SIL in the future

It might be time to rethink SIL's living arrangement if she doesn't apologize to OP and his wife for how she behaved. She was way out of line, accusing him of things he didn't do and then expecting affection from him.

OP should listen to the wise Redditors and talk to his wife about what happened. He did nothing wrong, and the Redditors seem to agree that he didn't behave like an a**hole.
