Dutch Artist Puts A Disney-Inspired Spin On Pet Portraits With Stunning Results

Apparently this sort of thing is called "Disneyfication"

I’m obviously behind the times, as I only recently learned the term “Disneyfication.” Maybe not so surprisingly, this has been a term that sociologists have been using since 1959 to describe “the commercial transformation of things or environments into something simplified, controlled, and 'safe'—reminiscent of the Walt Disney brand.”

Freaking wild that Disney has had such a widespread and impactful influence on society outside just enjoying the films and characters, but it reaches into the actual transformation of places or cultures. However, a Dutch illustrator has given us another meaning to “Disneyfication.”

For Isa Bredt, the 23-year-old artist from the Netherlands, “Disneyfication” is a way to transport animals into the animation world. Through her project Pet Disneyfication, Bredt transforms people's photos of their pets into spot-on Disney-like illustrations.

From the expressions, facial features, and more, all of the creatures in her series look like the classic animated Walt Disney characters we know and love. And this is very much purposeful, as she credits the 2D animated works from Disney, Dreamworks, and Don Bluth as her greatest inspirations.

After two years of studying Illustration and Animation, she started her pet portrait illustration business in 2019. This has allowed her to combine her passion for animals and art into a full-time job.

She has shared that she tries to capture an animal’s spirit in her portraits, but with her own special twist that makes them look like they could star in their own animated movie. I think it’s safe to say, she’s nailed it.
