See How An Illustrator Portrays Disney Princesses As Modern-Day Professionals

When we watch Disney princesses, we commonly see them being saved from curses by their princes or living under the wing of their evil stepmoms. But their fans, particularly illustrators, want to see them in a different light.

Today, we're going to look at how artist Matt Burt re-imagines these beauties. The graphic designer from North Carolina drew them as contemporary career women, and they absolutely look stunning in their "new" careers!

Burt has seen tons of recreations of the Disney princesses. But none have recreated these ladies as successful women in their own field.

The artist wanted to inspire others to aim for the careers that they've chosen. He also mentions that coming up with their jobs was a team effort.

His coworkers at Simple Thrifty Living helped him choose the best jobs based on their personalities and the actual story. The team wanted to portray them with strong roles.

Therefore, it wasn't just about matching their situation in the movies. They also had to consider the project's theme.

According to Burt, the whole work took two and a half months. Since it was a passion project, he had to do it in between his regular assignments at his job. It took him roughly a week to complete an illustration.

Anna and Elsa are scientists specializing in climate change.

The two sisters and the citizens of Arendelle are aware of what climate change could bring. While Olaf loves summers and everything that's hot, Elsa and Anna recognize the impacts of continuously rising global temperature.

She is an advocate at the United Nations. She fights for change wherever it's needed.

As someone who knows that everything is connected, Pocahontas fights to protect Mother Earth. In particular, she promotes sustainability.

Belle is a chancellor at a university.

Belle wants more than what the provincial life has to offer. She became an academe member because of her love for books and thirst for knowledge.

After gaining her doctorate degree, she became the highest official of a major university, a chancellor. Belle dedicates herself to bringing affordable and equal education for every individual.

Belle is a CEO at a coffee company.

Aurora is aware of how challenging it is to wake up. So after rousing from her deep slumber, she decided to open Spinning Wheel Coffee.

Tiana is a restaurateur and a top-class chef.

Tiana, inspired by her father's love for cooking, knew what she wanted to do from the start. She is a world-renowned chef who has bagged multiple awards.

She continuously searches for new dishes. That's why she has been testing a variety of new flavors and recipes.

Cinderella promotes animal rights as an activist.

She may be very thankful for her Fairy Godmother's gifts, but she wouldn't be the person she is today without the help of her animal friends. Now, she heads a nonprofit organization that raises awareness on animal rights.

Ariel is a pop singer and record producer.

Ariel always had that innate talent for music and a passion for singing. So she took advantage of her skills and turned them into a career.

Moana is a Navy officer.

A profession that involves the sea is Moana's calling. Using her strength as a leader, she has risen through the ranks and is now a lieutenant commander.

During her service, she garnered different honors. So, without a doubt, she'll be a successful woman in her career.

Snow White is a prominent psychologist.

Snow White is known for being loving and thoughtful. She's always willing to help people in need.

With her strengths and emphatic personality, she finished graduate school. Now, she is the leading professional in mental health.

Rapunzel is a doctor—a neurologist, to be specific.

Rapunzel's innate power to heal led her to study at med school. Eventually, she earned her doctorate.

She specializes in neurology and is now the country's leading expert. She makes it her mission to save as many patients as she can and deliver the best health care.

Matt Burt, the illustrator behind them all.

Burt not only drew them excellently, but his team also gave them roles that were truly suitable to their background story and personality.

According to Burt, he is a Disney fan, but not exactly a fanatic. Just like people his age, Disney movies were part of growing up.

He remembers the princesses fondly. When he turned into an adult, he began appreciating the artwork and the effort placed into animating them.
