The general population has unwritten rules about what’s acceptable and what’s not. Nobody really knows how those ‘rules’ are made, it’s just stated when most opinion favors one over the other.

Whether it’s about food preferences or mainstream shows, there are things loved in the status quo. Nobody bats an eye until you say you like something that goes somewhat against the grain.

If you’re one to like things that the general population doesn’t, then they call your preferences unpopular opinions. That’s because most people would rather not hear about it or try it and stick to what is universally liked.

On social media platforms like Twitter, they can go as far as having you ratioed a lot of people dislike what you have to say. Or if they simply misinterpret that you have an unpopular opinion means that you’re hating on their generally accepted one.
