Who would've believed that someone would want to record themselves doing everyday things, so people could tune in and watch. At the time, it was considered mundane to watch something without a plot on TV and see it as entertainment.

The Truman Show is a 1998 American film written by Andrew Niccol, the psychological comedy-drama movie stars Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank. An insurance salesman who grew up thinking he lived an ordinary life – little did he know that this was actually a reality TV show.

Unlike other people in talent or reality shows, Truman is oblivious to the fact that his entire world is a constructed set, and every person he's ever met is an actor. His friendships, relationships, career, and even marriage were all a lie, it was there for everyone to see, except poor Truman of course.

Marc Moran from Glasgow loves the movie so much, and thinks The Truman Show ranks high amongst the greatest movies of all time. To illustrate this, the Scotlander creates a Twitter thread where he lists the things filmmakers included in the narrative; the sort of stuff that you only consciously notice after seeing the movie a second, third, or fourth time.

As it turns out, a lot of people also appreciate the movie as a work of genius, and other filmaholics added their own comments. In fact, the buzz around the movie got so big that the tweet generated over 199K likes and 21.5K retweets in about 3 days.

Let's take a look at a couple of hidden deets from the movie.

Sherry Lansing, the then C.E.O. of Paramount who oversaw the production of the Truman Show shared, “That suddenly, we were going to have all these reality shows—the Kardashians, The Real Housewives. When I watch reality television and people who live in front of the camera—there are many now who do—I wonder how much of this is real, how much of it is just because they’re in front of the camera. Do they really know themselves? But every time I watch one, I think of Truman."

You could even become famous by simply doing everything, some people have even been diagnosed with Truman Show Syndrome. The sufferers think they're being watched, or their entire lives are a staged show.

Since the Truman Show, reality is now being televised for entertainment, with TV shows featuring unscripted situations, real people, and hidden cameras. Nevertheless, Andrew Niccol insists that, "When you know there is a camera, there is no reality,” in that case, Truman Burbank “is the only genuine reality star.”
