Parent Gets Called Out On Reddit For Deleting Their Son's Minecraft World

Parenting is surely one of the most challenging (and also fulfilling) roles a parent or parents will take on. Every day is a roller coaster ride with your kids and though it gets fun and exciting, it has also a challenge to it.
Now, disciplining your kids is a very hard aspect of parenting and it requires lots of patience. Mind you, discipline is not a bad thing, in fact, it will help the child in one way or another.
However, in this case, parents put a consequence whenever things are not met by their children. Say, in this episode of AITA, the OP, a parent of two, a 9, and a 6-year-old, things quite got out of hand when discipline was not met.
The OP was disciplining their 9-year-old to not sleep so late in the morning. Sure, they warned their son… but after their 9-year-old kid refused to follow, they gave him the consequence of being prohibited to use the computer for the next month, and worse, they even deleted her son’s favorite Minecraft world.
Emphasis on delete and favorite. Their son went bananas after this, cried, and refused to eat his meals.
And so OP asked for the verdict of the people on Reddit, and well, things did not exactly go well in their favor...
What do you think?
RedditHere's their side of the story:
RedditIt did not bode well for the Redditors on how they handled this parenting problem. At all.
RedditLet's check out some of the best comments:
We all have our own parenting ways and we all believe that this OP’s parenting style is a creative and imaginative crusher.
RedditWhy hasn’t anyone suggested this to the OP?! Rewards system is way way way way better than the consequence system.
RedditThe kid tried! Deleting his stuff was way out of the line.
RedditPoor kid. His mistake was only not waking up on time.
RedditYeah, right! The kid’s parent is also creative and imaginative… she thinks waking up is a skill.
Reddit"Try deleting everything in his life, let’s see if you still have got a son." Oops!
RedditYou wouldn’t want this kid to grow up distant to you, OP!
RedditWe agree. We hope this kid will handle it well.
RedditThe OP’s parenting decision just wasn’t as effective as she thought it would be.
RedditThe OP needs to calm down a bit with her consequences.
RedditTrue, the terms of the consequences were not discussed among the children. Now it’s totally unfair for the OP to just decide to delete her sons creations.
RedditAnd hey… no one’s really perfect!
RedditLet’s just say that the OP had a lot on her mind during the time.
RedditAre you also prepared for some consequences, OP?
RedditThis might be one example of poor parenting or just parenting gone wrong.
RedditSame question.
RedditHope we all learn from this. We don’t want any relationships neglected in the future, right?
RedditThere are surely some other ways to handle this.
RedditAll things take time.
RedditMaybe the OP is the one who needs some parenting classes.
RedditThough it is the OP’s full decision on how to take care of her kids, the consequence of this case is just too much for a “waking up” skill. A user strongly suggested that the rewards system is way more effective and better than the consequence system because it is!
It’s not easy to decide as a parent, but don’t we all have the same goal? For our kids to grow up properly and for them to look back on us people who loved them?
