There are times when people joke about "having PTSD," and it may be because they're upset about a persistent issue in their life. However, PTSD is actually a severe, life-altering illness that has to be treated by a doctor.

It used to be believed that only combat veterans and refugees might experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, recent studies reveal that PTSD can affect people of all ages, even young children.

Traumas that affect a child's sense of safety and security, whether one-time or recurring, can cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This could be a long string of traumas or a single traumatic incident like a car accident or sexual assault.

When the OP was in fourth grade, his two sisters got two cats for Christmas. One of the cats was by far the smarter of the two, as she could twist doorknobs with her paws, among other things.
