Parents Unhappy With Daughter Over Reporting Their 68-Year-Old Friend For Sexually Assault, Because It Could Ruin Their Friendship And His Teaching Career

A 16-year-old is worried that she ruined her parents' lifelong friendship with John. OP told her mom that John behaved inappropriately towards her.

Fair warning: this story contains details of sexual harassment towards a minor. The teenager's parents and their 68-year-old friend, John, were originally from a country in South Africa.

They moved to the US at the same time. John and his wife live five hours away from OP's family, but they visit every few months.

OP's mom frequently visits John and his wife because she works in the same hospital as his wife. The couple recently stayed with OP's family for a few days as is their norm.

Nothing was out of the ordinary. One day that weekend, OP's cousin and his friends stopped over to lounge by the pool.

John was in the house the whole time watching a car show. Eventually, OP's cousin and his friends bid their goodbyes.

OP's parents and John's wife all went to bed. OP was already in her room watching TV when she decided to go to the kitchen to grab a quick snack.

John was still in the living room lying on the couch. He said he was too lazy to get up when OP asked him why he wasn't in bed.

OP turned the TV off for him and was about to go back to her room when John asked to see her newly painted nails. OP walked to John and showed him her nails.

The 68-year-old teacher asked his friends' 16-year-old daughter for a hug and kiss goodnight

OP turned her face away as she hugged John. He kissed her neck, turned her head, and kissed her on the lips. OP tried to pull away, but John was forcefully holding the back of her head.

He tried to deepen the kiss while he slipped his hand in between OP's legs. OP stood up, ran to her room, and cried as she told her mom what John did.

OP told her therapist the following day. Her therapist filed a police report of the assault which they had to investigate.

The police took OP's statement. Later that night, OP's parents told her that her accusations ruined their friendship with John and his teaching career.

OP confided to her grandma and told her about the Reddit post she wrote. Her mom found out and has been passive-aggressive towards OP.

What the hell is wrong with OP's parents?

How is she getting more support from random strangers than her own parents who are supposed to protect her from people like John?

OP's parents deserve to read all of the comments on her post. They need to know exactly how they are failing her.

OP's parents should be ashamed for not immediately throwing John out of their house and calling the cops themselves

OP isn't safe in her own home. She and her brother aren't even safe around their own parents.

These poor kids have been failed by their parents and are feeling like they are to be blamed for it

It's good that OP and her brother can at least trust that their grandmother will be there to support them

OP posted an update. Her mom went over to John's house and recorded her conversation with him. John said OP came onto him because she had been infatuated with him for as long as he can remember.

OP gave up on ever receiving her mom's support with this issue. However, she is not giving up on getting justice for herself.
