Mother Devastated When She Overhears Teenage Daughter Telling Friends Her Parents Are Abusive

Being a teenager isn't easy. Growing up is tricky, and having a good group of friends is important.

But it isn't always easy to make friends, especially in adolescence. We don't quite know who we are yet, and we want so desperately to fit in with the majority.

For that reason, it's easy to fall into the wrong crowd. We may even do questionable things or lie to feel included and "fit in."

It's a normal part of growing up - within reason. But what if those actions are hurting others?

When a mother shared the story of her teenage daughter making accusations about her and her husband on UK-based forum, "Mumsnet," the online community was appalled. The woman shared her story to the AIBU (Am I Being Unreasonable?) thread, asking for advice when she overheard her daughter making false accusations to her online friends.

The woman explained that she had previously heard her 15-year-old daughter badmouthing her and her husband on the Discord chat app, but nothing like this. When the OP went for a walk one day and returned unexpectedly, she overheard her daughter chatting with her friends online, unaware that her mother was home.

The OP explained that her daughter usually wore headphones, meaning only her responses could be heard. But on this occasion, she wasn't wearing them, so her mother could listen to both sides of the conversation.

She explained that she had heard her teenage daughter "rubbishing" her and her husband on Discord.

She said her daughter knew they could hear what she was saying.

Until one particular day when OP returned home early from a walk.

She immediately overheard her daughter making horrible comments and calling her parents "abusive f**ks."

The OP explained that her daughter usually wore headphones. But on this occasion, she wasn't wearing them, so her mother could listen to both sides of the conversation.

The mother was understandably heartbroken by the things she was hearing.

Things like, "Your mom is literally Satan."

Some of the others in the chat began sharing their own stories before OP's daughter told them her mother only lets her eat 800 calories per day.

"If she lets you out of your bedroom," one person replied.

The OP explained that her daughter has a neurological condition, and she is her carer. She said that none of the things she was saying were true.

The mother was devastated by the things her daughter said and explained that she and her husband are good parents.

Her daughter was describing them as the exact opposite of what they are.

The woman explained to her daughter how dangerous and hurtful her behavior was.

After all, what if one of these kids goes and tells their parents about this "abuse?"

The daughter's response was to slam the door and rant about her right to free speech.

Our OP suspended her daughter's phone and internet access, asking, "What else do I do?"
