Actions really do speak louder than words. But hurtful actions coupled with hurtful words are unbeatable.
Reddit users dragged the OP of this post for the way they treated their father on Mother's Day. OP's mom had an affair six years ago and eventually married her affair partner, Eric.
OP's dad was scarred from the betrayal and hasn't had a serious relationship since. He complains that women his age are "too old, too ugly, and too bitter" for him to date again.
Still, he finds joy in other things. One of which is spending his Sundays in Outback Steakhouse or Texas Roadhouse alone to read a book or flirt with the servers.
OP finds their dad's Sunday pass time creepy. They think their dad's time will be better spent if he actually starts dating someone.
Before this recent Mother's Day, OP told their dad to stay at home instead of going to his usual restaurants because he will look weird sitting alone. OP even offered to pay for his dad to have food delivered, but their dad was hurt by OP's suggestion.
We can tell from OP's post that they warmed up to their mom's new husband. Eric goes all out for Mother's Day, and this year's was no exception.
OP was already at their mom's house when their brother arrived. His brother immediately asked OP if what they said to their dad was true.
OP was immediately defensive, but their brother refused to hear any explanation
u/samplanersEric tried to de-escalate, but OP's brother was having none of it
u/samplanersTheir brother said what they really thought of Eric and their mom. OP's brother then grabbed his kids and left the party.
u/samplanersOP called their brother and continued their argument. Their brother basically accused OP of siding with their mom and her affair partner. OP was also put in their place for shaming their dad into staying home when he is still hurting from the betrayal.
u/samplanersRedditors rallied behind OP's father. If there's anyone who should cower in shame, it's OP.

IsshinDZahulOP should pick up a book. Maybe they can learn how to be a better person.
samplanersOP's hurtful treatment of their father finally gave their brother a reason to stop participating in the fake happy family play
IsshinDZahulOP can continue living in their bubble
its_so_amazing, samplanersOP's dad deserves better than a child who has no sympathy
_A-QOP took one of the things that made their dad happy
KotenkiriIf OP thought posting on Reddit would help them save face, they were absolutely off the mark
dazednconfusedxoOP should reflect on their actions and find out why they're turning into a horrible person
gonexstayOP's betrayal must have felt like a gut punch to OP's dad
so_much_bushAnother member of his family chose Eric, the guy who took his wife and broke his family apart
_A-QOP should be ashamed of themselves. They have a lot of groveling to do if they ever want to be a part of their father's life.
What OP did was disgusting, and the fact that they needed other people to tell them how big of a jerk they were says a lot about OP's self-awareness. I wonder which dad OP celebrates during Father's Day.
