It's that time of year again - Halloween is once again just around the corner. And, if you're a fan of the spooky October holiday, you will most likely have already started your hunt for the perfect costume.

There is an infinite amount of inspiration for Halloween costumes online, but one young mama of four came up with a way to make the most unique, incredibly detailed costumes for her sons herself. She crochets them from scratch!

Stephanie Pokorny turned her childhood hobby into something special when she started posting photos of her kids wearing her epic handmade costumes online. People loved them, and Stephanie racked up thousands of likes and shares for her posts.

Stephanie puts an incredible amount of detail into her designs. From the eyes to the shadows and textures, she makes sure there are no details left out.

Stephanie says her designs really took off when her son wore one of her costumes. "My youngest son was the first recipient of one of these costumes," she said.

"Over time, it has become an absolute tradition my boys look forward to," Stephanie said. "They get to tell me what they want to be, and I then work to create it for them."

Stephanie grew up in the '80s, so many of her designs are inspired by movies from that era.

Predator, Alien, IT, and E.T. are just a few films that have inspired Stephanie's costumes. "My husband and I are 80s kids, so we often watch movies that are classics from that time," she says.

All of Stephanie's designs are done freehand.

That's right - no pattern! A select few then become patterns that she shares on her website or Ravelry, but the rest remain one of a kind.

Each costume takes a considerable amount of time. "They tend to take between 25-40 hours each, depending on complexity," Stephanie says.

Stephanie says she would love to take up other crafts also, but crocheting is her passion.

"In all honestly, I would do every craft every day forever and ever, but I have truly honed in on crochet as my medium. So, while I embarrassingly have supplies for beading, needlepoint, knitting, painting, jewelry maker, those just get to be lovely adornments in my craft room, lol!"

Stephanie hopes to use her talent and success to inspire others to take up crochet as a hobby.

"I have been blessed to have my work so well received, not only by our crochet community but also those who do not crochet," Stephanie says. "This is such a good feeling because one of my main goals is to further our art form and show people how amazing it can be!"

Stephanie says it's very rewarding to inspire others. "When someone tells you they want to learn to crochet because of something you made, that is a great feeling personally and for our crochet community," she says.

Well done, Stephanie! Keep up the fantastic work, mama!
