This is definitely not something you see everyday.
This story is definitely not one that we see every day, which makes it just that much more entertaining. We want to share this story because it shows just how clever wildlife and animals can be, even the ones we wouldn't normally expect.
If you've ever eaten food outside or had some sort of picnic, then you know that the one thing you need to be wary of is the animals in the area that you're in. Most animals can smell food from miles away and usually will walk to find out where it is coming from, no matter where they are or what you're eating.
With this being said, this is exactly what happened to this family after they were trying to have a picnic, but they were rudely interrupted by a group of Giant coconut Crabs. These crabs quickly ran up to the family to assert dominance after smelling their delicious food.
This isn't something that you see every day, so we definitely wanted to give you a look into this very unique and interesting story. So if you want to see what happened and hear more about how the family reacted, then keep on reading as we give you a look into the full story.
This family had gone camping on Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean, and they had planned a huge picnic for themselves. However, they were taken by surprise when their picnic was interrupted by a huge group of Coconut crabs.
The family quickly understood what these crabs wanted and what they were on a mission for. These giant coconut crabs are also called "robber crabs," which seems to fit them quite well, especially after this encounter.
These crabs started grabbing anything they could within their reach. They were there to eat.
It was clear what was happening. Here's what they had to say about their encounter: “We just lit our campfire, and soon as we started cooking, the smell of the food attracted a whole huge number of robber crabs,” the woman told says.
“We were sitting down trying to eat our dinner, and they were everywhere!”
It seems that these crabs really wanted to let them know that they weren't going anywhere.
“Soon, they began scaling the table, and one even clambered onto the barbecue. We had been wise to set up our tents far from where we had feasted, but unfortunately, one of the families wasn’t as fortunate.”
It's also important to note that these robber crabs have dominated Christmas Island, and they are known to have a huge population there.
These crabs can be over 8 pounds, and they can exceed a length of 3 feet, plus they can also live for over 50 years. This is definitely a story to tell, and we're so glad that this family captured this moment and was able to share it with us.
These crabs are huge and known to be all over Christmas Island, where they were staying, and it's a known area that is hugely populated with them.
