Redditor Asks If He's An A**hole For Wearing A Corpse Bride Costume To His Friend's Suprise Wedding

We all know there is an unwritten law against wearing white to a wedding, right? Okay, but what about wearing a wedding dress?

Well, Reddit user u/DanWantsDeath recently had this exact problem, and he posted about it in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. The 19-year-old explained that his female friend recently got engaged.

She sent out a message saying that she and her fiance would be having a small costume party to celebrate their engagement. The OP asked her if there was a theme for the party, to which she said there wasn't.

The Redditor says he is a regular cosplayer, so a costume party was right up his alley. He didn't want to dress in an anime costume for this occasion, and he thought it would be a funny twist to arrive at the engagement party dressed as Emily from The Corpse Bride.

When he arrived at the party, the OP said everything seemed fine, and a few people complimented him on his costume. But soon after, his friend's fiance walked out wearing a black tuxedo and announced that the party was actually going to be their surprise wedding.

The Redditor asked if he should go home and change, considering the change in event status, but his friend's fiance said it was fine and there was no need. So, the OP stayed in his Corpse Bride outfit for the ceremony, and everything was going great.

However, when he approached his friend and tried to talk to her, she ignored him and kept making excuses not to interact with him. Soon after the OP arrived home that night, he received some text messages from his friend.

She was swearing at him and telling him he "ruined her wedding." The OP was confused so he asked her what he did wrong.

She said it was "basic knowledge" not to wear a wedding dress to a wedding. So, the OP reminded his friend that he wasn't aware that it was going to be a wedding, and he did ask her now husband if he should change when he found out.

The OP's friend didn't respond after that, but her husband started to text and asked why the OP would tell her that he had said it was fine to wear the outfit. It became clear that the couple was now fighting, and they were blaming it all on the OP.

The Redditor says he has tried texting his friend since and apologizing, but she and her husband have now blocked the OP on everything. Keep scrolling to see how people reacted.

What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP is in the wrong for wearing the costume, or is his friend overreacting under the circumstances?

Either way, we don't think the OP had bad intentions. It's a shame for a friendship to diminish over something so trivial.

We would love to hear your opinions on this. You can share your thoughts with us in the comment section.
