Some people love animals while others aren't interested in getting pets. Since they are so adorable, it makes you wonder why their charm won't work on these people.
We can easily see that pet-keeping habits run in different families. It is often attributed to children acting like their parents when they're not home.
But a social science study suggests that this habit is related to genetics. There are people who tend to have pet-keeping nature no matter what their upbringing is.
These genes might be unique to humans. However, they are not extensive.
The research suggests that a number of societies or individuals in the past thrived because of their good relationship with animals.
Some recent studies also discovered that love for pets is closely related to concern for the natural environment. In a way, pets help us reconnect with nature.
There are many communities on Reddit dedicated to sharing photos of pets. Two of them are the r/dadswhodidnotwantpets and r/aww subreddits.
The former is dedicated to dads and pet parents who said that they didn't want pets at first. The latter is for posting anything cute.
