A big industry today is that of tracking your ancestors using archive documents and using your DNA to track your lineage. Ads for companies such as Ancestry.com (who originally had a business model of searching from archive information but have since expanded to DNA tests) or 23 and Me are regularly shown on tv and on website banner ads as well as doing sponsorship deals with various online personalities such as missfender.

Most people today roughly know where there family comes from so there is not real massive surprises but occasionally people get surprises when they decide to look up their lineage, and that definitely comes with the territory of a DNA test.

SourceSo luckily this story didn't end badly and actually brought the family closer together as they shared the memory of a loved one. It is brilliant that this story had a happy ending. That being said, as stated earlier don't gift DNA kits for Christmas guys.
