The phrase "duck" refers to all waterfowl, which technically includes swans and geese as well. However, most people think of ducks as being smaller than geese and swans and having necks that are much shorter than those two large waterfowl species.

Ducks are also incredibly bright and curious creatures that require enough room to move around unhindered. They also need access to water resources to engage in their inherently aquatic behaviors.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), numerous duck species are recognized as being either endangered or critically endangered. As you can already tell, today's AITA story is centered around ducks, and the OP made it known that the strip mall has two ducks that basically live there from spring to fall.

On a certain day, some lady made the assumption that one of the ducks was acting strange and must be dehydrated and malnourished. She bought some bird seed and got a bowl of water to try to lure the duck, but the smart animal wasn't buying it.

According to the lady, ducks are a protected species, and we should be doing everything we can to try to protect them. But then, the OP was of a different opinion, as they believe ducks should also be protected from being shoved in a box.
