Dog Owner Seeks Advice On Next Steps After Emotional Support Dog Is Shot By Police, Neighbor's Dog Was Attacker

"When he’s not being held, Dougie’s meow can be heard from galaxies far away"
Cats are creatures difficult to understand. While some cats don't need human company or touch all that much, others are clingy and would like nothing more than to spend all their time in the arms of their loving humans.
Who can understand cats? Well, people from Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland can.
Dougie, a 15-year-old ginger cat, loves it when people hold him in their arms. And he loves it a lot.
According to a post on the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland's Facebook page: “When he’s not being held, Dougie’s meow can be heard from galaxies far away.”
The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland fosters human-animal bonds in order to improve animal welfare and quality of life in our community.
Their website says: "We strive to prevent animal overpopulation by education and the promotion of spaying and neutering; we make end-of-life decisions based on safety and animal welfare considerations."
And even though the shelter staff would love to accommodate him and hold him all day long, they do have jobs to do. Errands to run, things to fix, take care of the other animals in the shelter... the list of their duties is quite long.
So, knowing that Dougie had to be held while they got maintenance done around the shelter, they had to think outside the box. Let us take a look at how they've solved this "problem."
You will love it:
"This is Robert, one of our awesome feline team members. And that there is Dougie, a 15-year-old cat who loves nothing more than to be held, 24/7.
When he’s not being held, Dougie’s meow can be heard from galaxies far away.
So, we thought creatively and decided a baby bjorn allowed Robert to both hold Dougie and do his job effectively 🙂 And, we think it’s pretty much the cutest thing we’ve seen, ever," the staff wrote on the official Facebook page.
Cats can be “clingy” for all kinds of different reasons. Some cats are like that by nature, others are simply bored and understimulated.
However, the reason for such behavior also may be that they were separated from their moms too early, or that they had a difficult life in their previous home or on the streets.
Dougie, who had been suffering from inflammatory bowel illness, was recently placed for adoption. Fortunately for him, his Facebook post went viral, and he found a wonderful new home in less than a day!
We'd like to remind you that, while Dougie has found a wonderful new home, your local shelter is still full of dogs in need of loving homes! If you're interested in adopting a pet from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, visit their website.
