Cats are often known to be curious creatures. They have a natural instinct to explore their surroundings and to use their claws to dig into any object that looks like it can be played with or attacked.

They tend to break things, rip into objects, climb on furniture, and jump on counters - which can often lead to destruction in the home.

However, sometimes, this curiosity can lead to more than just a torn piece of paper or some broken items. Such exploration skills can take them to places they should not go and cause them to do things that may put others in danger.

Just ask this couple whose cat turned on their gas stove and nearly killed them in their sleep! Yes, you read that correctly; this would have been death in the hands of an adorable feline.

It sounds like a scene from a movie and something that would never happen in real life. But, unfortunately for this couple, it was a very real occurrence that could have resulted in a fatal home accident.

It all started with the couple letting their cat stay out instead of confining him to his bedroom, as was usually the case.

In what seemed like a role reversal, the usually naughty cat was being very calm and well-behaved. This prompted them to let him roam around the house freely for a change. Little did they know that this decision would almost cost them their lives.

Sometime during the night, the cat made its way into the kitchen and discovered the stovetop. There, he managed to turn on one of the burners, which released gas into the air.

The gas-filled the kitchen and eventually made its way into the couple's bedroom, where they were sleeping. Had they not woken up due to the gas, they would have most likely been asphyxiated.

Thankfully, they woke up in time and were able to escape the potentially deadly situation.
