Car Owner Is Shocked To Find Her Car Damaged After Her Friend Left Her Dog In The Vehicle Without Permission
"She should have left the dog home so it can tear up her house"

If you get a pet, they’re going to be under your care and will be your responsibility as long as you have them. This is why people usually weigh out the pros and cons of getting a pet.
They would also hold off with getting one until they’re absolutely sure they could take care of them. Because sometimes, whether we like it or not, pets do the most reckless things that are purely based on their instincts.
A Redditor posted in r/AITA and asked if she would be the a**hole if she asks her friend to pay for car damages. It was due to the friend’s dog scratching the interior when it was left alone in the car safe during an event.
OP’s friend had to carpool with OP when they went to a sporting event but had to bring her dog. When they got there, she asked OP for the keys and since OP could open the door with her phone, she didn’t think much of it when she agreed.
What OP didn’t know before saying yes was that the dog was left alone properly in the car but had already done damage to the car’s interior and scratched the exterior as well during the process of going out. Now OP is asking Redditors if it would be rude of her to ask her friend to pay for the estimated damages.
Will OP be TA if she asks her friend to pay?

They had an agreement of carpooling to go to a sporting event

Then when OP got back to her car, that's when she saw the damages
Small_Yellow_Sneaker
OP's car was new and so she had to take it to the retailer

OP is hesitant to ask her friend to pay for damages out of pocket

There were additional details provided by OP for this post after multiple comments were posted
Small_Yellow_Sneaker
OP's friend got a hold of her keys by asking for it and never knew about her friend leaving the dog
Small_Yellow_Sneaker
This is how they resolved it
Small_Yellow_Sneaker
OP also extended her concern to the dog and talked to her friend about it
Small_Yellow_Sneaker
For those who see it as simply right or wrong, this is how it would go

And a lot would agree

OP didn’t even know that her friend left the dog and if she wouldn’t want to pay for the damages, OP could sue her

People questioned the choice of OP’s friend to bring the dog with them
v2den
She told them that she didn’t want to go through the trouble of hiring a dog sitter
Small_Yellow_Sneaker
This ultimately cost her more than hiring a sitter

In this case with this Redditor, they would be more concerned about...

how the dog was left in the car while the event went on

They were curious if OP ever questioned when the friend got back to the event without the dog...
FlumpyDumpyBumpy
but she and OP were only together when they carpooled
Small_Yellow_Sneaker
Since the event was outdoors, the friend could’ve entertained the thought of having the dog come with her

Before OP’s update, if her friend decided to run from the responsibility, she would still be asked to pay one way or another
VerySurlyPerson
In the end, OP’s friend decided to face the music and pay whatever damages she needed to. OP tried to compromise and found a way for her friend to pay less than the original price of the damages as well.
Although things have been resolved OP decided that she would still distance herself from their friendship moving forward. This was after she talked to her friend about taking care of her dog better.
