Growing up in Michigan, I was very familiar with the Canadian way of life. We even visited Toronto for our big 6th-grade field trip (only a five-hour journey!). Before 10 years ago you didn't even need a passport to cross into Canada from Michigan, just a smiling face and sometimes your birth certificate. 

Canada is universally known for many things: being nice, being apologetic, their extreme love of hockey, maple syrup, being in a seemingly perpetual state of winter, etc.

1. Their Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

He's hunky, he's smart, he's just like you! He also enjoys yoga and has been pictured hugging pandas. Who doesn't like that?

2. They spend their free time uplifting people's self-confidence!

3. They have companies who help clean for seriously ill women.

Cleaning For A Reason started in the US, but the Canadians have taken it under their wing as well. They provide free cleaning services to women who need it the most!

4. They build special welcome centers for possible, future alien visitors.

Canadians in Alberta are SO nice that they built a landing pad for potential alien guests so they could have an easy place to land. 

5. They are so honest.

I would bet anywhere else that a broken turnstile would mean a free subway ride, but not in Canada. These wholesome Canadians left their money and tickets owed so that their subway ride was an honest one. 

6. They care about their environment.

There is a rare forest there that is called the "Great Bear," and it's so huge that it's twice the size of Belgium. When this forest was threatened, they decided that 85% should be preserved and only 15% should go to the forestry industry. 

7. The police are nice.

This officer made this little girl's day by stopping by for a glass of lemonade. 

8. They are hilarious.

Because of the aforementioned snowiness, cold-weather pranks are easy to pull off. A Canadian prankster in Montreal made a car out of snow in a place that was illegal to park. The police tried to give it a ticket before they figured out what was happening. In the end, they thought it was pretty funny as well. 

9. They have adorable license plates!

These cute polar bear license plates aren't in circulation anymore, but they are still one of the cutest things I've ever seen. 

10. They are charitable.

Students around Halifax, Novia Scotia placed gently used clothing around the city on posts with notes that indicated they were for anyone who needed them. That is the attitude we should all strive for!

11. They are majestic.

Seriously, whose traffic cameras catch scenes like this on the regular?

12. They have a lot of oil

Surprisingly, Canada comes in third in the world for the largest amount of oil. 

13. Their money is life-proof!

Canadian money is made of plastic instead of paper, which prevents it from being destroyed by everyday wear and tear. It also has hidden maple leaf symbols, and some say it even smells like maple syrup!

14. They are so nice!

Canadians are known for their niceness and for their apologetic nature. This Captain Canada meme says it all. 

15. They are complimentary!

Think you got a parking ticket? Think again! You are just visiting Canada and someone thought you had a sweet ride.
