Who knew lions could actually fly?
The aggressiveness and meanness of buffalo can be rather extreme. Buffalos typically become aggressive as a measure of defense rather than engaging in pointless conflict.
They won't hesitate to defend themselves using whatever measures are required if they feel threatened or if a predator comes close to their territory. This often takes the form of charging and kicking, two prominent defensive techniques.
They are quite muscular animals, and that single kick can cause a fair amount of harm. Even though they are not searching for a fight, buffalo frequently engage in combat with lions and other predators due to their aggressive temperament.
This amazing scene shows a buffalo using its horns to throw its predator into the air and save a comrade from near death. Ian Matheson, a tourist visiting the Kruger National Park in South Africa, was there to see the amazing incident and capture it on camera.
The man was able to photograph a buffalo that was motivated to save his friend by flipping a lion five meters into the air.
“We had seen the two young lions on the prowl and were already quite excited to witness nature in action, but nothing could have prepared us for what we saw next,” said Oliver, Ian Matheson’s son. “It looked like it was game over, he really looked finished.”
You see, after the lion attacked a member of his herd, the buffalo launched a daring rescue operation. After silently stalking the buffalo for around 45 minutes, the lion had already buried its teeth into the hapless animal.
“Then we saw two of the original herd coming back to investigate and we didn’t really know what to expect,” the 17-year-old man said. “It was insane, he flipped the lion about five meters into the air.
I had never seen anything like it…we have never seen anything close to what we saw that morning. We really felt privileged to have witnessed such a rare occurrence.”
Those who had taken the tour were forced to observe the horrific event without being able to intervene to save the buffalo. But just as the buffalo appeared to be passing away, one of its companions intervened.
In reality, the lion actually left himself vulnerable to a surprise attack because he was so intent on bringing down his meal.
The fact that none of the animals suffered serious injuries as a result of the meeting is what is most amazing, with probably the lion's damaged ego as the one exception.
