Concerned Reddit Community Facepalming Over Claim By Korean Buddhist Temple That Cat Practices Buddhism And Went Vegan

Sometimes, we can't help but think that cats act like us humans. It's probably because we evolved from a common ancestor roughly 80 million years ago.

In fact, 90.2% of their DNA is common to humans. While dogs are considered man's best friend, we only share 84% of our genes with them.

But despite science proving how closely connected we are with cats in terms of DNA, it's wrong to assume that the depth of their emotions is the same as ours. Sure, they have emotions, but only the basic ones.

Still, some people read too much into their actions to the point that they might be causing harm to the feline. In today's outrageous story from the internet, we'll take a look at a cat whose caretakers in a Korean temple claim that it has turned to Buddhism and gone vegan.

They call the "monk cat" Haetal. Its caretakers say that it was an abandoned cat adopted by a monk.

The temple folks insist that the cat join the other monks in prayer every day, going as far as clasping its hands together. But the most mind-boggling part of it all?

They claim the cat actually sheds tears when indulging in tasty dishes, especially different Korean stews. The monks further proved that they practiced veganism when they served meat dishes, and the feline rejected them all.

This story was shared on the Facepalm subreddit. Let's see how community members reacted.

Let's hope they're allowing it to hunt for the food it really needs.

Cats eat food that aren't necessarily good for them.

The monk should stop offering all those Korean stews if the cat keeps tearing up from them.

It's really hard to confirm whether the cat is healthy or not just from one look at it. See the video below:

One thing's for certain: there's no way the cat is sentient enough to be practicing Buddhism and veganism. Cats are creatures of habit, capable of mimicking their owners.

Given that monks have daily routines, the cat is likely accustomed to them too. In other words, as one user pointed out, the monks are probably just being delusional.

We're crossing our fingers for the cat to thrive and lead a healthy life, all the while hoping the monks are serving up some proper cat grub too!
