Woman Has Had Enough Of BIL And His Family Destroying Her Property, Finally Snaps After They Destroy Her Precious Vase

Opening her home to her brother-in-law and his family was a reluctant decision on a Redditor's part. They've had past issues with her BIL but the decision to offer them a temporary place to sleep in was made for the sake of her husband's young nephews.

OP and her husband laid some ground rules before they allowed the family to occupy one of the rooms in their house. Her BIL must actively look for a job, the family must respect their space, and clean up after themselves.

It took her BIL's family a month to turn OP's house into a chaotic zoo. The family doesn't share meals with OP and her husband because BIL's wife is an extremely picky eater.

OP would have been fine with that if not for the mess the family leaves in the kitchen after meals. It was routine for them to leave crumbs, food stains, unwashed plates and pans all over OP's kitchen.

They begrudgingly clean when she asks them to do so. OP's expensive couch was made into a toilet by one of the kids, and the parents only owned up to it when OP smelled the stink while she watched TV.

Her BIL's wife is locked up in her room all day as her kids got their hands on every nook and cranny around OP's house. They made murals on the walls of their room, littered the living room with their toys, and knocked over half of OP's plant collection.

Her husband must have sensed OP's frustration. He talked to his brother and hired a cleaner to straighten up their chaotic house.

OP thought things were better. She went home early from work, and her BIL's family was nowhere to be found. OP was excited for a few moments of tranquility.

It all seeped out of her when she saw the precious handmade vase her late mother gifted to her shattered on her bedroom floor.

She knew it was the kids because their toys were all over her bedroom. OP called her husband to inform him the family overstayed their welcome.

Her BIL and his family got home to find their belonging all over the lawn. The confrontation escalated when OP called their kids untrained dogs. They left when OP threatened to call the cops.

Her husband supported OP's decision, but she could see the spark of guilt in his eyes. Her MIL asked OP to take the family back because she "forced them to sleep in their car" that night.

OP said her MIL can't offer her BIL's family a room because she lives in a one-bedroom apartment on the other side of the country.

OP also said that if her MIL had the space, based on her tone, she didn't want to house the chaotic family.

OP rebuffed the commenter. She explained how violating it was to have the sanctity of her bedroom be invaded. On top of that, one of her most precious possessions was left in ruins.

Redditors advised OP to contact artisans who could repair or transform the vase.

OP initially said repairing was not an option because of how the vase shattered...

...until a commenter suggested kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery. OP said she would look into it once she can bear to look at the vase.

OP said she kept the pieces of the vase hidden as it hurt too much to even look at them. Contrary to what the insensitive commenter said, the vase wasn't just a vase.

It was a tangible thing that reminded OP of her mom and everything about their relationship. Her BIL and his family didn't even apologize for what they did before they attacked OP.
