A 26-year-old bride wanted to borrow some Disney magic from the films she loved for her wedding day. However, her younger sister had strong feelings about the theme and made her opinions known.
OP said the bride, her older sister Jade, has been obsessed with Disney since they were kids. While OP enjoyed the occasional movie or character from the media empire, her sister's adoration of all things Disney was on the next level.
Two things happened when Jade got engaged. She and her fiancé bought a house, and they started wedding planning.
Jade excitedly talked about decorating her new house with Disney merch. OP and her brothers expected this from their sister because they knew how much she loved Disney.
OP only objected to her sister's "obsession" when it saturated even the wedding. Jade mentioned how she planned to have her bridesmaids dressed and made up in full Disney princess regalia.
Her sister's decision weirded OP out. More than OP's indifference to glam, she felt her sister was too old to play dress-up to make her bridesmaids look like her favorite Disney princesses.
What Jade asked of her was out of her comfort zone, said OP. She told Jade it was "childish and immature to fuel an obsession by treating her bridesmaids like dolls."
She refused to participate and be one of Jade's dolls. Her sister got mad and said everyone should follow her vision for her special day.
OP retorted that other bridesmaids shared her objection to being transformed into Disney princesses for Jade's wedding.
OP could have bowed out of the bridal party. She shouldn't have insulted her sister by calling her wedding theme childish and immature.

The drama could have been avoided if OP kept her judgments to herself.

Jade could align her wedding with whatever theme makes her and her future spouse the happiest. Since it wasn't OP's cup of tea, she should have opted out of the bridal party.

Is OP a fan of irony? Jade wasn't the person who looked childish to Redditors.

OP's position would have been more understandable if the bridal party had to pay an extravagant amount to follow Jade's theme. There is no clarity as to who was shouldering the cost of the Disney princess makeover.

Jade dictating how her bridesmaids should be styled and made up on her wedding day is traditional. Hers just had a Disney layer to it.
Severe_Chicken213
OP's complaints have nothing to do with the theme. She zeroed in on the Disney theme because she couldn't express her discomfort over being dolled up for a day.

Whatever OP ends up deciding, she needs to apologize for insulting Jade.

A good compromise would be to choose a less feminine-presenting Disney princess like Mulan (as a warrior), or Luisa Madrigal.

With the bride's approval, OP could attend as Tiana when she turned into a frog. Disney princess dresses are not far off from traditional bridesmaid dresses.
If Jade went the traditional route, OP would have been in a "girly" dress Jade chose anyway. If OP feels strongly against feminine clothing, she should tell her sister so instead of hurling insults her way to get what she wants.
