Man Screams At Celebrant For Bringing Drugs To His Party Despite Knowing He Was Sober, Gets Accused Of Ruining The Birthday

Realizing the need to sober up is one thing; taking concrete action to do so is quite another. Remaining sober entails more than just quitting alcohol and drugs.

It's a continuous process that calls for a challenging commitment to live a drug-free life. Usually, the first step is the hardest but when you consider the long term and all the stages involved in becoming sober, it can seem overwhelming.

Regretfully, there isn't a shortcut to sobriety. Nobody has the power to wave a magic wand and make you or a loved one sober.

A lifetime of hardships and setbacks awaits anyone pursuing sobriety, but there are also enormous rewards. The OP of today's story has been sober for a year and intends to continue.

OP's friend, Luke, invited him to his birthday party, which had 30–40 people at the peak, loud music, and enough alcohol to feed a village. Everything was fine for the first part of the night until the OP saw some people, including Luke, sitting around a table doing lines.

The whole party was starting to gravitate in that direction, and the OP could tell that this was about to become the sole focus of the rest of the night. The OP was upset at this because Luke knows a decent bit about his history and should have warned about it.

It ended up with the OP yelling and attention being drawn to them.

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:

I screamed at my friend at his birthday for having drugs at his party knowing that I am a recovering addict.

He believes that my response was an overreaction and that the matter could have been handled subtler and that I am an AH for “ruining for birthday.”

The OP did say he has PTSD and he dropped this as an edit:

Unfortunately, in light of the events discussed in this post and all the discussion happening in this thread I’ve had some dangerous thoughts resurfacing so i am going to log off for a bit for my own safety. I am planning to reach out to Luke in the coming days to try and clear the air but i do not intend to continue to remain being around him.
