When the first strain of the coronavirus debuted, people all over the world were wary of the symptoms that came with it: fever, tiredness, sore throat, cough, and the one that sent people into paranoia every time they felt like they had it: the loss of taste or smell. Who would want to spend the next two weeks eating tasteless (at least on your end) food, right?

When you're infected with COVID-19, the loss of taste and smell doesn't just end even after your recovery—there are a lot of reports that say people who got the virus still suffer from the after-effects of the symptoms even a few months later. While this can indeed trigger fear in people who are infected by the virus, especially since there is a risk of being critical and even the possibility of death is not ruled out, some people took a different approach when they had COVID.

And by some people, it includes this particular Redditor who shared such an unfortunate yet hilarious moment when he had the virus; when he decided to challenge his loss of taste. Some people had tried on different food combinations to see if it would have any effect on their tongues when they had the virus, but for u/almostbobsaget, he mustered enough stupid courage to consume the hottest peppers he could find and see if his taste buds would feel any burning sensation.

But it was not his taste buds that felt the burning sensation he expected, and as it turns out, COVID-19 wasn't the only thing he needed to recover from...

He posted his story under the TIFU subreddit community. The post has gathered over 35k upvotes and over 1.3k comments.

It took him three days to recover from what happened, and it all started when he joked to his brother that he should run a hot pepper gauntlet if he ever loses his sense of taste and smell after he got it over the weekend.

He started with habaneros since those are usually the peak of spicy tastes for him. But then...

He started gobbling down Carolina reaper peppers right after he realized that Death Spiral peppers had no effect on his tongue. Things took a wild turn when his body started to retaliate.

You can just imagine the sticky and disgusting mess that's about to happen.
