Box office earnings are the most obvious way to measure a film's popularity. If there are a lot of people lining up to see your movie then it must mean you made a good movie, right?

However, commercial success is not equal to critical success. For a movie to be considered good, it must also receive positive reviews from trustworthy film critics.

Some say critic ratings are the true metric of a good movie. After all, there is nothing more validating than an expert's opinion of your creation.

You could also argue that awards and accolades will dictate how a movie is remembered in history. Take the annual Cannes Film Festival for example.
