Northern Exposure Candle Company had a basket placed near their doorway. They had placed a toy fish in it.
A baby seagull spotted it and apparently fell instantly in love with that fish. He may have actually thought that it was a living fish.
The truth is that the walleye that caught the baby seagull's attention was in fact a stuffed toy. Not knowing the reality, the baby seagull was determined to get hold of it.
The grey seagulls are a specialty in Port Clinton, Ohio. This specific baby seagull was one of the many grey seagull babies that were born there but he was the last of them who learned to fly.
The manager of Northern Exposure Candle Company, Kylie Gospodarek, shared, “He was just a late bloomer — there wasn’t anything wrong with him.”
He further added, “The rooftops of our town are notorious for seagulls breeding … and when the babies learn to fly for the first time, they don’t actually make it all the way, so they wander around the streets.”
Explaining the baby seagull's situation she said, “He must’ve noticed the walleye, which looks realistic to him. The first time, he came in the store and grabbed the walleye, but was shooed out of the store before making it out.”
NORTHERN EXPOSURE CANDLE COMPANYThe little thief didn't just give up after his first failed attempt, either.
His determination got the best of him and he kept on with his attempt to steal walleye. Eventually, he was successful on his fourth attempt.
Gospodarek said while narrating the event of his baby seagull's successful attempt, “I had about six customers in with me, and they noticed him and were like, ‘Hey, is he supposed to be in here?’ I already knew who he was, so we ran around our displays to corral him out the door."
NORTHERN EXPOSURE CANDLE COMPANY"He just went for it and grabbed the fish, and he made it out the door on his fourth attempt,” Gospodarek told.
Gospodarek ran out followed by the customers to get walleye back. They saw the baby bird clutching hard to the fish with his beak, standing in the middle of the road.
Together, they steered him to the sidewalk where he let go of the toy finally. This video of his theft will definitely make you laugh and surprise you.
NORTHERN EXPOSURE CANDLE COMPANY“A lot of people wanted me to give it to him, but I don’t think they realized he was trying to eat it,” Gospodarek remarked.
The story did not end here. The adorable thief remains on the outlook, stalking the store to get a chance to steal his favorite fish again.
Gospodarek explained his ordeal saying that “He’ll kinda walk in the door … and he’s like a little puppy dog. As soon as he sees me coming, he’ll turn his head and is like, ‘OK, I won't come in.'”
Poor birdie.
It has been a week since the baby seagull showed up last at the store.
Gospodarek is sure that by now the bird has learned to fly and has forgotten about the stuffed toy considering he must have learn to catch real fish by now too.
