There's nothing more exciting than a new baby on the horizon. The anticipation of what gender it will be, who it will look like, and, of course, the name you will choose for the tiny human you created.
Choosing a baby's name is such a big decision, and it's one that should be made by both parents. But what happens when the rest of the family isn't happy with your choice?
Reddit user u/eggghunt recently posted about this exact problem in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. The 28-year-old explained that she and her partner are expecting their first child very soon.
The OP said that both of their families are very excited about the baby, but they won't be finding out the gender for another two weeks. So, in the meantime, the parents-to-be have been thinking of potential names for both boys and girls.
The OP says that she has always disliked the most common girls' names in her country. She says she likes her own name because it is more uncommon than most, but that she struggled to find other female names that she liked.
The Redditor says she found a name a few years ago that she liked. It matched all her criteria - short, meaningful, and not ending in A. She said it wasn't necessarily her partner's first choice but that he was happy to go along with it if they had a girl.
However, when the OP mentioned the name to the rest of her family, some of them were not happy about it. The Redditor's mother, in particular, doesn't like the name because she has an ex-co-worker with a similar name who she didn't get along with.
Then, to make matters worse, OP's sister gave her dog a very similar name also. The Redditor says her mother and siblings have been giving her a hard time about the name, saying that she shouldn't use it.
The OP spent hours searching for another name that she liked as much but couldn't find anything that resonated with her. She says she is worried that if she uses the name, her family might mock it or mispronounce it on purpose out of spite.
So, the mother-to-be asked the Reddit community for advice. Keep scrolling to see how people reacted.

Surely it should be the parents-to-be who get to make the decision on the name. It is their child, after all.
