"It was so outrageous that it was obviously a joke."

Being a bridesmaid is an honor that comes with lots of responsibilities. After all, it's your job to keep the blushing bride happy and ensure that things go smoothly on her big day.

But, as Reddit user u/inmyprincessera recently found out, things don't always go to plan. The OP posted about her experience in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit.

She explained that her cousin got engaged a few months ago and asked her to be one of her bridesmaids. Of course, the OP was overjoyed to accept!

The wedding date was set for April 24th, and on April 1st, the MOH sent out a PDF to the bridesmaid's group chat. It was a list of wedding party rules and responsibilities.

The list included a picture of the dresses the bridesmaids would be expected to wear on the wedding day, and the OP was not impressed by the "hideous" $800 dresses they would also need to pay for. The message went on to say that the dresses only went up to a size 8, so anyone bigger than that would need to lose weight before the big day.

At that point, the OP was furious! She says she is a size 10, and the MOH is a size 12.

Some other things mentioned on the list were that none of the bridesmaids were allowed to be more tanned than the bride or have longer hair than her. It also said that the bachelorette party would be held in Paris, and each bridesmaid was expected to contribute $3k.

The OP says she was so upset that she stopped reading and muted the chat. She was so hurt that she decided to drop out of the wedding party altogether.

When the OP checked the group chats the next day, she saw that everyone had been talking about how hilarious the bride's "prank" was. It turns out that at the bottom of the PDF, it said, "April Fools."

Of course, the OP hadn't read that far, so she was unaware of the joke. And months later, she is still upset with the bride about her "mean-spirited prank."

Now, the bride, the MOH, and the other BMs are all angry with the OP for overreacting and dropping out of the wedding over an innocent joke. Keep scrolling to see how people reacted.

Fast forward two months and the OP is still seething over the prank. So much so that she decided to back out of being a bridesmaid.

What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP overreacted by dropping out of the wedding party or was the bride out of line for pulling a prank on her bridesmaids?
